Unity’s sustainable business enterprise major is not your typical business degree because Unity is not your typical business school. Our degree infuses sustainability science into every course. And we offer four concentrations to give you more specialized study into your area of interest.

Degree requirements and courses 

To earn the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Business Enterprise, you will need a minimum of 120 credits. Thirty credits should be at the 3000 level or above, and a minimum of 30 credits need to be earned at Unity.

  • BU 3243 Entrepreneurship for a Better World

    Dive into the basics of a business or e-business start-up and operation, from envisioning a product or service to understanding market niche and the constraints and opportunities posted by the taxation and regulatory environment. You’ll understand the framework for the entrepreneurial process and be exposed to opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurs who start new businesses.

  • EC 3003 Ecological Economics

    Examine ecological economics in both theory and practice. We’ll begin with theoretical founders and basic principles of the economics of sustainability and sustainability science. We’ll also cover an introduction to dynamic systems modeling, the analysis of environmental externalities, lifecycle analysis, and the calculation of energy return on investment (“EROI”).

  • SY 3193 International Development and Sustainability

    Learn the historical roots of the idea of development and their implications for sustainability and the interrelationship among businesses and civil society (NGOs) in addressing pressures such as population growth, food security, poverty, inequality, urbanization, technological change, international trade, and environmental change at local, regional and global scale. You’ll learn to devise innovative solutions and explore how both the private sector and civil society can create action to advance the achievement of the sustainable development goals.
